Move, Eat & LIVE Green! -- As part of School District 18’s healthy lifestyle initiatives, March 17, 2010 has been designated as “Move, Eat & LIVE Green!”day. To support this initiative, Bliss Carman Middle School will be taking part in the following activities to celebrate the importance of being physically active on a daily basis, to eat healthy foods and to become aware of our impact on the environment:
Student Luncheon – Each student will receive a free lunch and milk at our school cafeteria. Students have ordered a 1/2 wrap and milk for Wednesday.
Physical Activities – The entire student body will take part in an organized warm-up activity and afternoon walk through our neighboring community. Upon return, each student will receive a bottle of water on their way to afternoon classes.
School Spirit – in celebration of school spirit and St. Patrick’s Day, all students are encouraged to dress in green and gold for this event and special day.
There may be additional activities planned for your son/daughter’s classroom or team.
Good afternoon Parents,
Here are a few items we wish to pass along:
1. Our school officially began a raffle today, and your child will be provided one booklet of tickets to take home ($2/ticket or 3 tickets for $5). The prize is a Norco Katmandu mountain bike valued at $499.00. This bike was generously donated by Savages Bicycle Centre. We are hopeful that we can count on your support with this book of tickets, either by direct sale or selling to a friend, neighbor, colleague, etc. The money raised from the raffle will be used to bring in a trials (stunt/mountain) biker (www.ryanleech.com or Youtube “Ryan Leech”) into our school to do a demonstration, and to discuss goal setting/overcoming obstacles/and positive attitude. We will be holding weekly draws for $20 for student sellers, as well as a $50 cash prize for the top seller in the school. The draw date is March 30th and additional tickets are available from our front office.
2. We still have a few seats available for the grade 8 French trip to Quebec. If your child is not a part of this program and would like to join, please contact M. Lalonde. (jd.lalonde@nbed.nb.ca) The trip takes place June 16-19th and is open to English Prime and French Immersion students (in good standing).
3. Yearbook – The cost for a yearbook is $30 and these can be purchased online or through M. Lalonde.
4. STEM Expo (School Level) – Tomorrow is a big day for our school as we are having our school-wide science fair. Parents are more than welcome to come in and view the STEM Expo projects between 1:30-2:30 p.m. Awards will take place at 2:15 p.m., and it would be great if parents could take home their son/daughter’s projects at this time.
New Brunswick Student Wellness Survey
Across the province students in grades 6-12 are participating in the NB Student Wellness Survey. Students will be asked questions about their wellness behaviours such as their eating and physical activity habits, how connected they feel to their school, and some questions about tobacco use.
On Friday, March 19th, 2010, during period 1, all Bliss Carman Middle School students will be participating in this survey. All students in grades 6-8 are reminded to return their permission slips to their homeroom teachers by Monday, March 15th, 2010.
This survey is completely voluntary and confidential. Your co-operation in permitting your child to take part in this survey is greatly appreciated.
Breakfast at Bliss Carman!
This Saturday, March13th, our staff and administrators will be rolling up their sleeves to cook breakfast in support of our Grade 8 Girls’ Volleyball Team, who are fundraising for the Eastern Canadian Championship being held in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
